What happened

While footfall slumped at physical retail in the run-up to Christmas due a surge in Omicron cases, around a quarter of Brits (23%) are set to go online today and spend with Gen Z and Millennials expected to be the biggest shoppers with 67% saying they will go online to find a bargain.

Why it matters

Among the top expected sellers are jeans with 45% of shoppers putting them at the top of their wishlist along with coats (36%) and trainers (36%), according to Data from ASOS 2021 Trends Report and Opinium’s survey of 2,000 UK adults.

With the 90s trend set to continue into 2022, baggy jeans and cargo pants are also expected to be popular and, as consumers look forward with more confidence, bright colours will be favoured.

A quarter (24%) of 18-35 year-olds say they will be wearing oversized fits in 2022 and a fifth (20%) say they will be going for big and bold colours.
